GeoMapping Studio
An interactive mapping workspace for drawing, editing, importing, and exporting GeoJSON features.
- React
- TypeScript
- deck.gl
- nebula.gl
- Mapbox GL
Problem
GeoJSON is useful but difficult to inspect and edit as raw data. GeoMapping Studio puts mapping and feature editing in a visual workspace, with a table view for inspecting feature properties.
Implementation and decisions
The React application keeps map, drawing, selection, and view state at the app level, then passes it to a dedicated map view. That view combines DeckGL with editable GeoJSON layers from nebula.gl. Separate hooks and services load GeoJSON from a URL and export the current collection as a file, keeping these data operations apart from the map component.
Status and limitations
The checked-in code supports drawing and editing map features, URL-based GeoJSON loading, table inspection, and export. The map component explicitly disables TypeScript checking and uses any for several map values, so I do not claim strict type safety. The public client-side demo shell did not verify the full mapping workflow; the pinned source revision is the evidence for this description.
